Types of Item Storage and Storage Fees in Israel. What you Need to Know.

Hello Everyone! Israstorage, which is one of the leaders in the market of item storage in Israel, is introducing a new section on its website for all its current, potential and future clients: a blog that will keep you updated on the main aspects of item storage, transportation and apartment oversight. We will try to cover a little bit of everything and answer any questions that you may have

So, where and how do people store things in Israel?

The answer is simple: warehouses are the best choice. There are different options and different types of warehouses, as well as different approaches to storage of apartment furnishings, personal items, goods and documentation. If you have an apartment or a house and need to store your furniture and belongings for an extended or brief period while you are moving or traveling, or maybe because your place is becoming too cluttered with too much of your stuff, the best option would be a self-storage warehouse or regular indoor no-access storage facility.

Your further considerations will depend on the quantity and size of your items. How much will this cost? Storage fees are pretty much the same everywhere and they depend on stored volume and duration of storage.

A studio or 1-1,5-room apartment with furniture and other things will require about 10-12 m3 of storage space. Storage fees vary from 30 to 50 shekels per 1 m3, which on average adds up to 450-500 shekels a month with VAT. You will also need to pay for delivery.

The transportation market is very competitive and the price will depend on the distance. On average, it will cost you 1300-1500 shekels to deliver your stuff one way.

Storage of items from a 2-3-room apartment (15-20 m3) will cost 650-750 shekels per month with VAT. One-way delivery will cost about 1600-1800 shekels.

For a small villa or large 4-5-room apartment (50-60 m3) you will have to pay 1500-2500 shekels per month with VAT. One-way delivery will cost 1800-2300 shekels, but only if you manage to fit everything into one truck.

If you want to store small items, those can be stored in cardboard boxes (on pallets) or durable plastic boxes (on racks). A single pallet can accommodate 15-20 medium-sized cardboard boxes (2 m3 in volume each) and will cost 80-130 shekels.

This type of storage is generally used by businesses for temporary storage of commercial goods. Delivery is arranged at your own expense. The best way to store your personal belongings is in medium-sized (60 liters) plastic boxes. Storage in one such box will cost 30 shekels per month with VAT.

All small items from a 2-room apartment, for example, will fit into 15 boxes. Their storage will cost no more than 400-450 shekels per month with VAT. This service usually comes with free delivery, which gives you a clear financial benefit. You can also arrange storage of single large items that won't fit into boxes, and the price for that will be significantly lower.

Now let's get back to types of storage facilities. At a self-storage facility, you rent an individual unit within a secure warehousing complex. You can request professional delivery of your stuff (at prices quoted above) or deliver it yourself. Such storage facilities generally charge you per 1 m3 of occupied space. Depending on the size of your unit and duration of storage, the fee could average from 30 to 60 shekels per 1 m3.

Depending on the storage facility, you will either have 24/7 or business hour access to your unit, and if you need to retrieve something – you will have to go there yourself. This option is convenient for long-term storage of items that you will only need occasionally. The downside is that all units have a specific size, and you will have to settle for the unit that is available. Thus, if your belongings only occupy 5 m3, you will still have to pay for the entire volume of a larger unit, i.e. for 6 or 8 m3. An indoor no-access storage facility will also charge you per 1 m3, but at a lower fee: from 25 to 40 shekels. Delivery is on you as well. Such warehouses are convenient if you want to arrange short-terms storage of things that you will not need access to. This option is generally recommended by movers.

What you want to do is make sure that the recommended storage facility is actually that and not come shed, container or outdoor lot with a marquee. Indoor storage facilities will also offer you the option to store items in boxes (the boxes are sealed). This service generally comes with free delivery. Storage of items in a plastic box will cost you 30 shekels per month with VAT (without account for potential discounts). Please make sure to always inquire whether stated storage fees include the 17% VAT.
